Our Director, Antony Grace, recently attended The Deanery High School’s Year 9 Options Information Evening.
Helping young people understand the opportunities available to them is an important step in preparing them for the future.
These events support students and parents as they begin making important decisions about their next stage of education.
This event allowed families to speak with teachers, training providers, and industry representatives about subject choices and the potential career pathways they can lead to.
Helping Students Make Informed Choices
For many Year 9 pupils, choosing their GCSE options can feel like a big decision.
Events like this help remove some of the uncertainty.
By giving students the chance to ask questions, explore different subjects, they understand how their choices can connect to future careers.
Throughout the evening, Antony spoke with students and parents about opportunities within engineering and building services, including apprenticeships and vocational routes into the industry.
These conversations help students see how subjects such as maths, science, and technology translate into real-world careers.
Bringing Careers to Life
One of the most valuable aspects of the event was the opportunity for students to speak directly with professionals.
Young people can better understand what those roles involve and what skills are required.
It also reassures students that there are many different routes to success.
University, apprenticeships, vocational training, and employment pathways all offer opportunities depending on individual interests and strengths.
A Positive Experience for Pupils
Following the event, The Deanery’s Careers Lead, Katie Martin, shared her appreciation for the organisations who supported the evening.
She said:
“On behalf of myself, the school, and especially our pupils, I would like to extend my sincere thanks for generously giving your time and supporting our Year 9 Options Event.
Your involvement provided our pupils with a valuable opportunity to explore a wide range of pathways, ask meaningful questions, and gain a clearer understanding of the subjects and careers available to them.
From speaking with pupils throughout the evening, it was clear that they found the event both inspiring and reassuring.
Many commented on how helpful it was to hear directly from professionals who could bring these subjects and career routes to life.”
Supporting the Next Generation
For ASH Integrated Services, supporting events like this is part of a wider commitment to developing future talent.
We need to address the skills gap within engineering.
Early conversations about careers can have a lasting impact.
When students see what opportunities exist and understand the routes available to reach them, they feel more confident about the choices ahead.
By working with schools and colleges across GM, ASH continues to help young people explore careers in engineering and the wider built environment.
Call to Action
If you’re a school, college, or education provider looking to connect students with real industry insight, we’d be delighted to support your careers events.
