As part of our commitment to early careers education, ASH Integrated Services delighted in supporting World Maths Day with a visit to Broadbent Fold Primary School.
Our Director, Antony Grace, led an engaging session with Year 5 and 6 pupils, helping them connect classroom learning to real-world careers in engineering and electrical services.
Antony’s workshop focused on the role maths plays in the day-to-day life of an electrician—from understanding power usage to calculating loads, designing circuits, and ensuring safe installation.
“Maths is everywhere in our industry—from the smallest fuse to the biggest control panel,” said Antony.
“Helping children understand how numbers link to the real world makes maths more meaningful and can open their minds to career paths they might not have considered yet.
I was really impressed by the students’ curiosity and thoughtful questions.”

During the session, pupils explored different electricity sources used worldwide and got hands-on, identifying various unfamiliar electrical objects, discussing how they work and their uses.
The level of engagement and enthusiasm in the room blew Antony away.
Mrs. Blomeley, who organised the visit at Broadbent Fold, shared:
“Antony was extremely impressed by their knowledge and thoughtful questions and answers.
It is always good to hear about how people use Maths in their careers! The children were brilliant hosts!
Thank you, Antony, for taking the time to visit us—we all really enjoyed your workshop!”
Why Start the Careers Conversation Early?
Research and industry feedback clearly show that exposing children to career possibilities early makes them more confident and informed when making later education choices.
Events like this help:
- Connect classroom learning to real life
- Inspire curiosity about STEM careers
- Break down stereotypes around who can work in technical roles
At ASH Integrated Services, we believe careers awareness should start in primary school.
That’s why we’re passionate about engaging young people early and often. We show them how skills like maths and science matter in real-life careers.
We’re proud to support schools like Broadbent Fold. We look forward to more opportunities to inspire the engineers of tomorrow.
